The ResponderTM provides an immediate and readily available water source for firefighter hydration and rehab. Any water carrying apparatus is the ideal platform for a water purification unit to support emergency response crews during and after an incident.
As an incident commander, you are responsible for ensuring the safety of your crews in an extremely challenging work environment. By the time most emergency personnel stop to drink water, they are already at a dangerous point of dehydration. This is compounded by the challenges of providing easily accessible water to your crews. While water is available on the apparatus, it is not clean to drink or easy to distribute. Bottled water is an equally challenging alternative as it requires logistics, available personnel and transportation.
The Responder-TTM from First Water Systems is a water filtration unit that draws water directly from the apparatus tank or other available water source. Powered by the 12 volt alternator on the truck, it pumps 1 gallon per minute and provides cleaner, safer water for your firefighters and emergency responding personnel. During and incident, it can operate continually and create an “always-on” point of water for continued hydration. Utilized with rehab protocols, your crews will work safer and require less rehab time.
First Water utilizes advanced filtration technology to provide clean, safe water. The 3 stage filtration process includes sediment filtration for incoming tank water, carbon filtration to remove taste and odor, and ultraviolet disinfection for bacteria reduction. The engineering design of the system features a patented double-pass process in the UV chamber to create the most complete, chemical-free filtration system available. For a very small investment, any fire truck can be enhanced to also be a fresh water supply.
While The ResponderTM line is ideal for your emergency crews, it can also be utilized to support you community. During structure fires, your apparatus can become a distribution point providing clean water to evacuated civilians, provide initial decontamination, and support topical cleaning of victims. Your apparatus can also be dispatched to events such as water main breaks to become a clean water source for local businesses and residents.
The ResponderTM line includes 3 products:

First Water Systems, Inc. today has made available the Flex-ChlorinatorTM to work with both the OutpostTM and ResponderTM water filtration product lines. The new Flex-ChlorinatorTM augments the cleaning process of the water by providing a second source of disinfection after the ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection. It additionally adds a residual disinfectant that stays with the cleaned water similar to the way water treatment plants work.
The new Flex-ChlorinatorTM is an optional addition to the treatment process for use when source water is suspected of being heavily contaminated by viruses, or has not been previously treated through a municipal system, or when local authorities require the chlorination of cleaned water.
The Flex-ChlorinatorTM comes in the same rugged Pelican case that is used with the ResponderTM. Its unique design is totally “green”, and does not require any power source. The proprietary injection system has been designed to be used with common bleaches such as Clorox. Included with every Flex-ChlorinatorTM are two collapsible 5 gallon clear plastic containers used to dilute the bleach. If the containers become lost or damaged, any common 5 gallon water container will work.
Using the Flex-ChlorinatorTM couldn’t be easier. The injection system is precisely calibrated to always inject the chlorine in an amount that will not add undesirable taste. Simply place the Flex-ChlorinatorTM next to an OutpostTM or ResponderTM, add the bleach and water to the dilution tank, hook up the hoses, and it starts working immediately. The amount of chlorine entering the water automatically adjusts based on the flow of water going through the system. Each five gallon container of diluted bleach will last for about a day with normal use of the OutpostTM, and the only need for an operator is to switch a hose from one dilution tank to the other when the tank becomes empty.
If you are in an area that requires the addition of chlorine to water, the Flex-ChlorinatorTM from First Water is the only system that provides the capability in a portable, safe, easy to use mechanism without any power requirements.

First Water Systems, Inc. announced today the availability of its new Supply Station. The Supply StationTM completes the total water purification solution for locations where there are no natural bodies of water to draw from. The Supply Station specifically focuses on critical infrastructure, such as urban hospitals, where a place to draw water from can be a challenge.
While compromised water mains still provide the best option for a water source, there may be times when the mains go completely dry. In this instance, the Supply StationTM is an excellent solution. Available in either 2,100 or 3,000 gallon capacities, the Supply StationTM provides a front-end component to the process that can store a significant amount of water prior to being purified. The source of this water would typically be from the local fire department. Most fire departments would be happy to supply critical facilities with an occasional tank of water during emergencies if they know that the facility would then be self-sustaining for its water needs.

First Water Systems, Inc. responded to a request by the government of Ecuador to provide assistance with the historic flooding experienced by approximately one third of the country. While in-country, First Water personnel also deployed to the mountainous areas of the north, meeting with and learning the critical clean water needs of the native Incan Indians.
While Ecuador is known for its incredible beauty, it is also home to the Machangara River, considered by many as the most polluted river in the Western Hemisphere. It is common to see both raw sewerage and industrial chemicals being dumped directly into the river. Prior to approval to deploy its patented water purification equipment, First Water first had to first directly drink from the Machangara, and also run extensive tests on the quality of the purified water. After seeing First Water personnel drinking the putrid water, Mr. Mario Ramos, Minister of Public Health, also drank the water and immediately moved to implement the technology at all 200 emergency shelters addressing the current flood crisis.
As Mr. Ramos has stated “I never imagined anyone could drink this water and survive. This equipment will change everything for us. Because our country has the most active volcanoes anywhere in the world, we need to care for very poor people unable to evacuate from both floods and eruptions where quick response is very critical.”
In addition to deploying equipment throughout the country, Mr. Ramos also plans to develop a Water Strike Team modeled after the successful First Water Disaster Strike Team. First Water is currently planning the training requirements and necessary equipment for the Ecuadorian government to implement a successful Team. The Ecuadorian Water Strike Team is anticipated to be comprised of local Public Health, firefighters, and military personnel. The Team will be trained on use, maintenance and repair of all First Water equipment, as well as operational protocols to respond in the two regular emergency events addressed by Ecuador – flooding and volcanic activity.

Today First Water Systems, Inc., the leader in water purification technology for critical facilities, has entered into a teaming relationship with Grainger, Inc., the leader in providing equipment and supplies for any anticipated facility needs. This new relationship will enable health care facilities to purchase all First Water products directly from Grainger at the identical prices as would be available from First Water.
Grainger has long had a special relationship with hospitals and health care, with most having established Purchasing Agreements to make acquisitions easy. In most instances, hospital purchases of First Water equipment will be credited towards all Grainger promotions and purchasing agreements. These established Agreements will enable healthcare organizations to easily acquire the First Water solutions.
Judith Edwards, First Water Business Development Director for Healthcare, summed up the perspective of the First Water Team “Grainger is unique in that their employees, particularly in healthcare, are focused and extremely well respected. Working with them will enable the awareness of the First Water solutions to spread much faster, make the buying decision for customers much easier, and provide an immediate cadre of professionals that can speak about our unique emergency solutions when water availability is impacted.”
Initially, the First Water equipment will not be available through the Grainger Catalog, but rather sold through their dedicated inside and outside healthcare sales force. This will ensure that the Grainger representatives will have a satisfactory knowledge of the First Water solutions and their healthcare applications.
