Enhancing Life With Clean Water

In developing countries, the First Water line of water filtration products is being implemented as a method to provide safe drinking water at a community level.  The First Water technology and filtration systems have been the technological choice for safe water projects in small communities and villages in over 120 countries around the world.  Designed specifically to adapt to the conditions and situations found in the developing world, the First Water product line has a solution to fit each community’s unique situation and budget.

Consider how First Water has helped the following communities as an example:

  • Payas, Haiti, serving 2,900 residents, uses a Villager that operates primarily on only solar power
  • Batey Central, Dominican Republic serving 3,000 residents, uses a Villager that operates mostly on A/C power, but uses solar when then the power is not available
  • Northern Potosi, Bolivia, serving 2,800 residents, deployed an Outpost that was used for over a year to respond to a disastrous flooding situation, and then deployed the system to permanently support  local residents
  • Outside Kampala, Uganda, multiple sites of approximately 100 people per location rely on a Responder™ that operates on both solar and electric, and is moved daily to the various villages

The First Water Villager™, Outpost™ and Responder™ all feature integrated solar power, and can operate without any other power source.  In communities with very limited or no access to electricity, the solar power function is a necessary alternative.   During times when electricity is available in the community, the Villager runs by using the available A/C power.  When electricity is not available, the solar power capability automatically engages and allows the continued filtration of water.  The First Water products uniquely utilize electric power when available, but then switch over to solar when the electricity goes out.  All systems are additionally optimized to run off “dirty power”, the type typically produced by generators or vehicles.  Dirty power results from the power constantly going in and out, as well as fluctuating amperage.  Through innovative engineering and various power capabilities, these water purification products are optimal for areas with infrequent and unreliable access to electricity.

The Villager-12™ weighs only 55 pounds and is designed to be wall-mounted for easy installation and housing.  The system is designed to be placed in a community location allowing all residents easy access to filtered water at a central point.  Producing up to 12 gallons of filtered water per minute, the Villager-12™ can supply over 7,000 gallons of safe drinking water over the course of a 10-hour day.

Freeing residents from the physical and economic burden of retrieving water from long distances, combined with the health consequences of not consuming or washing with dirty, disease-laden water, all the First Water solutions affect positive change in these types of communities.  Regardless of location or extreme conditions, First Water Inc. has a viable solution to bring safe drinking water to communities and villages across the globe.  If you have a unique requirement to meet the needs of people that cannot be satisfied by either the Villager™, Outpost™ or Responder™, please contact us to either develop or evaluate other options.
