Firefighter Hydration with First Water Systems

The ResponderTM provides an immediate and readily available water source for firefighter hydration and rehab.  Any water carrying apparatus is the ideal platform for a water purification unit to support emergency response crews during and after an incident.

As an incident commander, you are responsible for ensuring the safety of your crews in an extremely challenging work environment.   By the time most emergency personnel stop to drink water, they are already at a dangerous point of dehydration.   This is compounded by the challenges of providing easily accessible water to your crews.  While water is available on the apparatus, it is not clean to drink or easy to distribute.  Bottled water is an equally challenging alternative as it requires logistics, available personnel and transportation.

The Responder-TTM from First Water Systems is a water filtration unit that draws water directly from the apparatus tank or other available water source.  Powered by the 12 volt alternator on the truck, it pumps 1 gallon per minute and provides cleaner, safer water for your firefighters and emergency responding personnel.  During and incident, it can operate continually and create an “always-on” point of water for continued hydration.   Utilized with rehab protocols, your crews will work safer and require less rehab time.

First Water utilizes advanced filtration technology to provide clean, safe water.  The 3 stage filtration process includes sediment filtration for incoming tank water, carbon filtration to remove taste and odor, and ultraviolet disinfection for bacteria reduction.  The engineering design of the system features a patented double-pass process in the UV chamber to create the most complete, chemical-free filtration system available.  For a very small investment, any fire truck can be enhanced to also be a fresh water supply.

While The ResponderTM line is ideal for your emergency crews, it can also be utilized to support you community.  During structure fires, your apparatus can become a distribution point providing clean water to evacuated civilians, provide initial decontamination, and support topical cleaning of victims.  Your apparatus can also be dispatched to events such as water main breaks to become a clean water source for local businesses and residents.

The ResponderTM line includes 3 products:

  • The Responder-TTM is a permanent truck mounted unit affixed to the apparatus, plumed into the tank and wired to the electrical system. This creates an instantly available water source for frequent operation.
  • The Responder-BTM is a portable unit housed in a rugged military spec case.  It provides flexibility in deployment and can draw water from virtually any salt-free water source.   The Responder-BTM draws power from any 12 volt source, most commonly auxiliary outlets on vehicles, as well as AC power through the included power converter.
  • The Responder-STM is a solar powered unit housed in a rugged military spec carrying case.  This is the ideal solution for crews operating away from vehicles such as wildland firefighters or search and rescue teams.  By utilizing the included vehicle cigarette lighter adapter and power converter, the unit can operate off AC and DC power as well as solar.
